Each year, consultants from The Danish Camping Board assess the quality of campsites based on the following three aspects: buildings, grounds and facilities. The factors assessed for these three aspects include quality of maintenance, cleaning, choice of materials and good workmanship.
The quality of each campsite is assessed in relation to the quality of other campsites with the same star rating. In other words, the quality assessment of a 2-star campsite cannot be directly compared with the quality assessment of a 4-star campsite.
The quality assessment is shown on a bar chart, where the quality of the buildings is expressed by the height of the blue bar, the quality of the grounds is expressed by the height of the green bar and the quality of the facilities is expressed by the height of the red bar. The higher the blue, green and red bars, the better the quality they represent. The size of the white sections shows what the campsite lacks in terms of quality with regard to buildings, grounds and facilities. If a campsite has achieved maximum quality for buildings, for example, there will be no white section above the blue bar.
An example:
2-5 star campsites have a fourth bar, which shows whether the campsite has undergone the obligatory fire and first aid training. If the site has taken both courses, it will receive a full yellow bar. If the site has taken only the fire or the first aid course, only half of the bar will be yellow. If the site has not taken either course, the fourth bar will remain completely white.
